My Dogs
The puppies are a recent addition to the family. I show apartments part-time, and one of the tenants had been evicted. When I went to the apartment to get it ready for showing, I found that the jerk had abandoned his dog and her six puppies. The mother dog was chained to the rail on a second floor porch! Sucker that I am, I started going over there everyday to feed them, but when the puppies started moving around, I decided that a second floor porch was decidedly unsafe, so I brought them to my house. Well, we found homes for all of them except these two, which seemed to have wormed their ways into a permanent place in our hearts and on our sofa!
Mackenzie is a little brindled mutt and Madelline looks just like a baby rottweiler. Their mother is a shepherd-pitt bull mix, so we don't know what they'll look like when they're grown. They sure are cute now...
PUPPY UPDATE: My "puppies" are getting huge! We now have a better idea of what they'll look like when full-grown. Mackenzie is looking very much like a Rhodesian Ridgeback, except her ridge only comes up when she get very agitated with her sister. Madelline also has a tendency to get a ridge when riled up. They also both have webbed feet!
WARNING!If you haven't had your own pets vaccinated, please do so immediately! Ours weren't, and now Mackenzie is in the hospital, being treated for Parvo. This is a very serious, often deadly, disease that CAN be prevented! Our veterinarian says there is a tremendous outbreak, at least in this area, and it is highly contagious, and can even be contracted from birds walking though infected areas, and then in your dog's yard. Please, get your pets' shots updated now! By the way, if you think it's too expensive: a round of shots run about $50. Mackenzie's treatment (intravenous feeding, antibiotics, hospital stay, etcetera, will cost well over $400.
SPRING UPDATE: Mackenzie is doing fine, back to her normal spoiled self. The girls are one year old now! They have a new hobby; chasing (and eating!) crickets! I don't understand the fascination myself, but they think its the coolest thing since basted bones... Mackenzie also has a new trick. She gets in bed with us at night and snuggles up on our pillows. We pet her for a few minutes, and then tell her to move down to the bottom of the bed. At this point, she closes her eyes and pretends to snore! When we laugh and continue to pet her, she opens her eyes again. When we tell her to move, she snores. This can go on for some time, until we actually physically remove her...
WINTER UPDATE: We got a big snowfall, and the girls are loving it! They roll in it, dig in it, and eat it.
